Cheer Information

Overview and scope of Nipmuc Youth Cheer Program:  

We know as new parents to the cheer program that you will probably feel overwhelmed from all of the information outlined below, but please keep in mind that our rules are created and enforced for the safety of each cheerleader.  We want you to have as much information as possible so that you understand the commitment involved. 


Uniform/Paperwork Night: Thursday, June 14  6-8pm  Miscoe Upper Gym

Jamboree: Saturday, 8/18  Millbury/Sutton hosting at Grafton High School - See your coach for times

All Star Tryouts: Saturday, 8/25 9am-2pm

Choreography: Saturday, 8/25 for U14 at Bay State All Stars

Cheer Pictures: Wednesday, 8/22 U8 5:15; U10 5:30; U14 5:45  Miscoe Hill Middle School

Fun Comp: Saturday, 9/22  Oxford, MA

Local Comp: Saturday, 10/20  Lowell Memorial Auditorium

State Comp: Saturday, 11/3  Lowell Memorial Auditorium

Regional Comp: Saturday, 11/17  SNHU Arena, Manchester, NH

Nationals: 12/6 - 12/10  Florida


Cheerleading is an interdependent sport.  Each person on the squad has a position that relies on others.  If someone is missing from a stunt group, that stunt group isn't able to practice to their fullest capacity.  Therefore, it is extremely important that each cheerleader attends all practices.   

The official cheer season typically begins the week of August 1st.  All practices are closed (meaning just cheerleaders and coaches). Our reason for having closed practices is first and foremost for the safety of the cheerleaders as they are the priority.  In the past we have had issues with people walking in and out of the gym which is very distracting to the girls while they are trying to learn. 

Practice Schedule

  • Competing squads will practice 2-3 times per week at the coaches discretion
  • Mitey Mites will practice 1-2 times per week

Practice Dress Code

  • NIPMUC Cheer practice shirt
  • Shorts – nike pro style
  • Cheer sneakers
  • Socks
  • Hair in high ponytail with cheer bow
  • No jewelry 


Cheerleaders will be required to cheer at games for their assigned football teams.  Teams and schedules will be determined at a later date.


Three (3) unexcused absences (at games, practices and competitions) result in a cheerleader being ineligible for competition.  All practices during the week of competitions and for choreography (usually a weekend in August) are MANDATORY. Cheerleader’s parent(s) will be informed when their daughter incurs an unexcused absence. 

An absence is considered unexcused when no one (Squad Coaches or Cheer Director) is informed of the absence.  A cheerleader is considered to have an unexcused absence if she does not have a medical reason; a family emergency (which will be at the Cheer Directors’ discretion) or prior arrangements are made with the Head Coach.  

An absence is considered excused if the cheerleader informs her coach or the cheer director (prior to the absence) of the impending absence and it is determined that the absence is acceptable. 


  • Original Birth Certificate (This is for new cheerleaders only; your original will be returned once the squad book is certified by Central Mass Youth Football & Cheer)
  • AYF Waiver and Release of Liability
  • Emergency Medical Form
  • Medical Consent or Copy of Physical Form – Must be dated after January 1st, 2017.  We strongly urge you to work on getting the release signed by your physician now to avoid any delays. If your daughter’s annual physical date falls after information night, you will be required to provide a copy prior to the start of practices.

  • Parent Code of Conduct
  • A copy of your child’s June report card will be required prior to the start of practices


Every cheerleader will receive a NIPMUC cheer uniform that consists of a long sleeve top and skirt and also a practice shirt.  Each cheerleader will be required to purchase a NIPMUC Cheer warm up jacket, white cheer sneakers, a game & competition bow, and black cheer bloomers.  All this can be purchased at the uniform/info night in June.

Please wash the uniforms inside out in cold water with a gentle woolite detergent and hang to dry.  Please do NOT put the uniforms the dryer.  Each cheerleader will be resposible for turning in their uniform at a designated return night at the end of the season.  Lost or damaged uniforms will result in a $90 replacement charge.
